Mukesh Kumar held his nerve to defend 13 runs in the final over as Delhi Capitals registered a thrilling 7-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Washington Sundar fought hard for Sunrisers Hyderabad till the last ball but his unbeaten 24-run innings went in vain. He also took three wickets with the first ball in the match. It was a disappointing display with the bat from Sunrisers Hyderabad as they were restricted to 137/6 in reply to Delhi’s 144/9.

23 runs were required from the last two overs of the match as Anrich Nortje was given the responsibility of bowling the tough final over. He lived up to the expectations and turned the momentum Delhi’s way by dismissing Heinrich Klaasen for 31 off the third ball. 10 runs came from his over.

Chasing a target of 145, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their star opener Harry Brook early for 7 runs. It was the first ball of the 6th over and Brook tried to break the shackles and nudge the ball a bit to play it over fine leg but Nortje had too much pace for him as he got cast.

Mayank Agarwal, who had returned to his natural opening slot, played a brilliant knock of 49 off 39 balls in difficult batting conditions. He kept the scoreboard moving in the first half by hitting fours at regular intervals. 32, 7 fours.

Meanwhile, it was another underwhelming outing for Rahul Tripathi as he managed just 15 runs off 21 balls. He hasn’t been at his best this season which is a worrying sign for SRH in the middle order. Tripathi was dismissed by the experienced Ishan Sharma.

Aiden Makram (3) and Abhishek Sharma (5) failed to contribute much as the match started slipping out of SRH’s hands. Klaasen scored 31 off 19 balls hitting three fours and a six to put Delhi under pressure but his wicket in the final over completely changed the momentum.

Nortje and Akshar Patel took two wickets each for Delhi, while Ishant Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.

Earlier, Sundar spread his net among the Delhi Capitals batsmen at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday. Sundar got his mojo back as he dismissed three batsmen in an over to put Delhi Capitals on the backfoot.

Sundar got the wickets of DC skipper David Warner (21), Sarfaraz Khan (10) and Aman Hakeem Khan (4) within six balls as Delhi Capitals were reduced to 62/5 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Manish Pandey (34 off 27) and Axar Patel (34 off 34) revived the innings a bit but Delhi Capitals again lost wickets in heaps as they ended with 144/9 on the scoreboard.
