David Warner was lucky as the ball hit the stumps but bailed out on the very first ball of the match between DC and GT in Delhi

Delhi Capitals captain David Warner found green grass to escape despite the ball hitting the stumps during the match IPL 2023 match against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. Warner appeared to be a goner off the very first ball of the encounter after the Aussies missed a brilliant delivery from Mohammed Shami.

The GT players did not waste much time in making a loud appeal as there was some noise when the ball passed Warner’s bat. But much to everyone’s surprise, replays later showed that the ball had indeed hit the stumps and the bails were unobstructed.

This strange incident surprised Gujarat wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

The Gujarat players also discussed whether they should ask for a review. But skipper Hardik Pandya finally decided not to.

Warner got a valuable lifeline and scored a few runs but there was no flow.

The Aussie veteran hit the final ball of the opening over to give hope.

However, he scored 37 off 32 balls at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

His knock included seven fours. His highest score in DC’s final total of 162/8.

Warner was dismissed by West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph in the ninth over of the match. A late cameo from Axar Patel – 36 off 22 balls – helped Delhi reach the total.

Shami and Rashid Khan took three wickets each.

Losing their opening batsmen – Saha and Shubman Gill – in quick succession, Gujarat’s run chase suffered an early setback. Sai Sudarshan stepped up and guided the team over the line.

The Chennai-born played a match-winning knock of 62 not out to guide GT to a six-wicket win. The defending champions scored the winning runs with 11 balls to spare.

With two wins in as many games, GT is currently sitting on the top spot IPL 2023 mark sheet.
