IPL 2022: Former PBKS batting coach ‘Shocked’ for not seeing a single yorker in Odeon Smith’s last over

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer on Friday was “shocked” to see Punjab Kings all-rounder Odion Smith not bowling a single yorker in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Gujarat Titans.

Rahul Tewatia hit two sixes in the last two balls to guide Gujarat Titans to a resounding six-wicket win over Punjab Kings.

Jaffer praised Tewatia but also criticized Smith for not bowling well in the final over against Gujarat Titans.

“Critical overthrow from Odion on the fourth ball, gave up an extra run and brought Tewatia on strike. Surprised to not see a single yorker in Odion’s 20th over. Well done for @gujarat_titans, just ice cool under the pressure of super knocks #PBKSvGT #IPL2022 from @ShubmanGill & @rahultewatia02,” Jaffer tweeted.

Meanwhile, former India spinner Pragyan Ojha said that Punjab Kings will discuss Smith’s final over after the heartbreaking loss.

“What a game! Brilliant music by #RahulTewatia. But #PunjabKings will be referring to the single given by #odeansmith in his over while running out the batsman. Had he not done so, #rahultewatia would have remained at the non-striker’s end. ,” Ojha said on the KOO app.

Coming into the match, Shubman Gill’s scintillating 96 and Tewatia’s 13-run knock helped Gujarat Titans win a resounding victory.
