IPL 2022, Eliminator: ‘My heart wants Virat Kohli to score a hundred, can’t see him fall further’ – Akhtar

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar supported Virat Kohli to score a match-winning century in IPL The Eliminator match of 2022 took place between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Kohli, who went through a poor run in the first 13 matches of the season, returned to form in the all-important clash with his 73-run knock against Gujarat Titans. It was his only second half-century this season, a visual treat to the eyes that summed up all Kohli-esque shots as RCB kept their hopes alive with a decent win. The batting maestro recorded three golden ducks this season, which put him in a tight spot, but the crucial innings against Gujarat helped him gain some confidence.

RCB have qualified for the playoffs for the third time in a row and they will be looking to break this season’s battle for a place in the IPL final for the first time since 2016.

Akhtar, who is very vocal about his opinion, called Kohli the greatest player of the modern era and feels that the players got trolled unnecessarily during their lean patches.

“Virat Kohli is the greatest player of the modern era, there is no question about it. He is a great guy; People troll him unnecessarily. His form dropped and trolling started. When you started playing cricket, you wanted to be a part of the Indian team and serve Indian cricket. Tonight, he has an equally big opportunity ahead of him,” said Akhtar while talking to Sportskeeda.
