Rajasthan Royals opener Devdutt Padikkal has surpassed Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and veteran MS Dhoni to become the third fastest Indian to complete 1,000 runs in IPL history. Padikkal reached the milestone with a four off Shivam Mavi during RR’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday night.

Padikkal took 35 innings to enter the club of 1,000 runs in the IPL, one less than Gambhir (36 innings), two less than Rohit and Dhoni (37 innings). The record for the fastest milestone is held by batting great Sachin Tendulkar, who needed just 31 innings to do so.
Tendulkar is followed by Suresh Raina (34 innings) in second place while Rishabh Pant and Padikkal are joint third.

Padikkal was a top performer for Royal Challengers Bangalore during the last season when he scored 411 runs including a century. The top-order batsman scored 101 runs in 52 balls to break the record for the fastest century by an uncapped Indian in the IPL.
However, he was not retained by RCB, who then lost him to RR in the IPL mega auction, with the inaugural IPL champions getting him for Rs 7.75 crore.
Padikkal has made a mixed start to his IPL 2022, scoring 41 in RR’s season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad before being dismissed for 7 against Mumbai Indians. He then scored 37 and 29 in the next two innings before being dismissed for naught against Gujarat Titans.
On Monday, he started well but was eventually dismissed for 24 off 18, an innings that included three fours and a six.
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler scored his second century of the season – 103 for 61 – to take RR to a colossal 217/5 in 20 overs. Buttler thus became the sixth batsman in IPL history after Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Hashim Amla and Shane Watson to score more than once a century in the same season.
His innings hit nine fours and five sixes and cemented his position at the top of the list of top run-scorers of IPL 2022.
