Star India pacer Deepak Chahar is expected to be available for the Indian Premier League 2022 by mid-April. Chahar, who was bought for a whopping Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2022 auction, sustained a quadricep tear during the recently concluded series against West Indies. According to a report in Times of India, Chahar will not undergo surgery and will be fit to play for defending champions Chennai Super Kings by mid-April.
Chahar walked off the field after straining his right leg muscle during the third T20I vs West Indies. Till then, he had bowled brilliantly to remove two of the Windies batsmen – Kyle Meyers and Shai Hope. He was later ruled out of the Sri Lanka series and is now set to miss a major part of IPL 15.
He was the second most expensive purchase in the IPL auction this year after premier pacer Ishan Kishan. He was followed by Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings before he was heavily acquired by CSK.
He is currently undergoing eight weeks of rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The report suggested that CSK want Chahar to join their training camp in Surat at the earliest.
CSK are the first team to start their training camp before the start of the tournament on March 23. The men in yellow will open their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium. The defending champions are placed in Group B. IPL 15 with teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and latest franchise, Gujarat Titans.
Apart from Chahar, CSK also regrouped their other former players including Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo.
The 2022 IPL will begin with a high-octane match between last season’s finalists – CSK and KKR – at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
March 27, Sunday, will be the tournament’s first double-header with five-time champions Mumbai Indians locking horns with Delhi Capitals in the day’s play at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Later in the evening, Punjab Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium.
