IPL 2022: Andy Flower revealed as coach of Lucknow franchise

Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower has emerged as the front-runner to become the head coach of the newly-inducted Lucknow franchise in the 2022 Indian Premier League.

Flower has already stepped down as the assistant coach of Punjab Kings.

KL Rahul, who was the captain of Punjab for the last two seasons, is also expected to move to the Sanjeev Goenka-owned franchise.

When contacted to comment on speculations about the appointment of the head coach, a team official told PTI, “We are hearing a lot of names. Just today someone wrote that Gary Kirsten is also becoming a coach. We are in talks with a few, but we cannot confirm until someone signs it for us,” the official told PTI.

Flower joined the Punjab franchise prior to IPL 2020 and worked with head coach Anil Kumble for the last two seasons.

The Zimbabwean legend, who coached England to the T20 World Cup title in 2010 and also secured the number one spot in the Test rankings, is also at the helm of the PBKS-owned franchise – St Lucia Kings – in the CPL.

Apart from Flower and Kirsten, former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra are also associated with the Lucknow franchise.

The Goenka-led RP-SG group had spent Rs 7090 crore to own the Lucknow franchise.
