Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday became the first team of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be out of the playoff race after their five-run loss against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2021 Sharjah. It was their eighth loss in nine matches this season.

Sunrisers have been one of the most consistent teams in IPL history. Since its inception in 2013, the franchise has reached the playoffs six times in eight seasons, with their best performance in 2016 when they lifted the trophy under the leadership of David Warner.

However, in the 14th season of the IPL, Sunrisers have lost eight of their nine matches so far, their only win being by nine wickets against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Warner’s poor form and lack of middle-order strike hitters have hurt Sunrisers the most as they struggled throughout the season to match their formidable bowling combination, which includes players like Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma, and Jason Holder.

“It (SRH) is a proud franchise, a disappointing season. We need to look for areas to improve. We try to learn from the first half of the game,” the captain said. Kane Williamson Said in a post-match presentation.

“Those games are thick and fast. We need to come into the next game with fresh eyes and independence. We will try and do our best. Smart cricket has to be played on different surfaces,” he added.

SRH still have five matches to play and will take on Rajasthan Royals in Dubai on Monday.
