Several iPhone 14 Pro users have reported horizontal lines on their display after waking their phone from sleep or turning them on. Apple has confirmed that this is a software issue.

Several iPhone 14 Pro users have reported horizontal lines appearing on their display when they wake their iPhone 14 Pro from sleep or start it up. Apple has acknowledged that this is a software issue, not a hardware issue—which means it can be resolved with an iOS update.

As 9to5Mac reports, the issue is plaguing most iPhone 14 Pro Max units, with a ‘significant number of people’ reporting it on Reddit and across the internet.

“I just received the iPhone 14 Pro Max last Friday (12/9/22). I noticed that when the phone wakes up, horizontal lines flash across the screen. Does it randomly, not every time the phone wakes up. Sometimes it’s just 1 line, sometimes it’s multiple,” posted one user.

Another user said, “For me these lines also appeared once I turned on the phone, as soon as the Apple logo screen appeared. The lines disappeared after 1 second.”

The glitch appears to have different effects on different users, with some experiencing more severe problems than others.

Several users, after taking their iPhones to Apple for service, were told that it was an ‘iOS glitch’ and not a hardware defect. “I took it to Apple, and they ran diagnostics, and everything came back fine (green). The technician told me it’s not a problem with the hardware, it has to do with the software,” one user reported to 9to5Mac. Told accordingly.

Currently, there doesn’t appear to be a solid fix for the software glitch, but toggling the Always-on display on and off, manually turning the phone off instead of timeing out, and resetting the phone may help.

Reportedly, the glitch only affects iPhones with LG displays, not Samsung ones, and while some initially thought the issue might have something to do with the iOS 16.2 beta, the issue has now been confirmed as part of iOS 16. Seen in other versions as well, so things are rather unclear. Stand.
