Improved multitasking, keyboard shortcuts added
Before iPadOS 15, multitasking was quite an Achilles heel for the iPad, but Apple has made it much better. With iPadOS 15, it gets better. A new multitasking menu appears at the top of apps, making it easy to switch to Split View or Slide Over with just one tap. Users now have quick access to the home screen when using Split View, and using the new Shelf, they can also multitask with apps that have multiple windows, such as Safari and Pages. All-new keyboard shortcuts and a redesigned menu bar allow users to do more, including quickly set up and switch between Split View and Slide Over, from their external keyboard.
Give the iPad a new ‘look’ with widgets and more
With iOS 14, widgets became quite popular and now with iPadOS 15 they can now be placed between apps on the home screen for a more personalized experience. Apple has created a new larger widget size, designed specifically for the iPad’s larger display. The App Library also comes to the iPad, which automatically organizes all apps into the Productivity, Games, and Recently Added Assistant categories, and is easily accessible from the Dock.
FaceTime calls are better on the iPad
Apple claims that FaceTime audio and video calls on the iPad will become more “natural and lifelike.” FaceTime on iPad also comes with a spatial audio feature. Other features such as voice isolation, a new microphone mode, eliminate background noise and use machine learning to prioritize the user’s voice. There’s also wide spectrum which allows every bit of background sound to come through. Group FaceTime now gives participants the option to display them in equally sized tiles in a new grid view, making it easier to interact with larger groups.
FaceTime on iPad can now work with Android, Windows
With iPadOS 15, FaceTime calls can now extend to Android and Windows devices. Users can create a link from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac and share it via Messages, Calendar, Mail, or third-party apps, so anyone can join a FaceTime call from their web browser. FaceTime calls on the web remain encrypted end-to-end, so privacy is not compromised.
All New Notifications on iPad
Notifications have been redesigned, making it even easier for people to recognize them by adding larger icons for contact photos and apps. Users can now receive a notification summary – a useful collection of notifications delivered daily – at set times, such as morning and evening, making it easy to capture the day’s activity at their convenience.
