In the letter, former IPCW teachers and students questioned the management’s choice of not supporting the students who were victims of the violence.

Over 1,100 people, including former teachers and students of DU’s IPCW, have expressed deep concern over the alleged harassment incident at a recent festival and demanded an apology from Principal Poonam Kumaria.

They have also raised several questions regarding the incident questioning the action and response of the management in the letter signed by all.

The letter comes a week after some unidentified men allegedly barged in, shouted slogans and harassed girl students during the annual ‘Shruti’ festival at Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW).

The writers of the letters are former college teachers, parents and concerned citizens.

“The undersigned includes students from the early 1960s. IPCW has never seen worse times than what we are seeing right now. We, academicians and members of civil society, are deeply concerned by what is happening and feel strongly that the college needs to actively protect its girls instead of harassing them further,” the letter signed by 1,108 individuals read.

He questioned why the college management did not support the girl student who was hospitalized as a result of the violence and offered to provide full financial assistance for her medical procedures.

“Why is the college threatening the students with dire consequences if they continue with their protest, calling parents of already victimized students and creating an atmosphere of fear through punitive measures?” He asked.

“An apology would go a long way in restoring the trust and harmony that IPCW has had over the past 99 years. We demand that the students should be able to send their chosen candidates to be members of the Screening Committee.”

The alleged harassment incident drew widespread criticism.

The incident was followed by several protests against the principal, with students accusing the college of “saffronisation”, claiming increased surveillance and curtailment of freedom of expression at the hands of the newly-appointed principal. Is.

Kumaria said in a statement that the management has requested the police to send a lady officer to the college on Wednesday to register the complaint of the students. During its annual celebration, she said.

In her second statement in the last two days, the principal said that Indraprastha College for Women is concerned about the inconvenience caused to some students during the festival and requested the students to avail the services of counsellors.
