Internet stalled in areas of Kashmir, two wheelers seized before Amit Shah’s visit

Authorities have suspended internet in some areas of Kashmir, while police have seized a large number of two-wheelers ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s possible visit to the Valley later this week. Shah is likely to visit Kashmir on Saturday when the first international flight from Srinagar to Sharjah takes off.

Police officials, however, said internet shutdown and seizure of two-wheelers had nothing to do with Shah’s visit, but was part of routine anti-terrorist measures.

“Seizing of some bikes and internet shutdown of some towers is purely related to #terror #violence. This has nothing to do with the visit of Hon’ble HM,” tweeted IGP, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar.

Internet services at a dozen towers – mostly in areas where non-local laborers died last week – were snapped two days ago, while police have begun a strict scrutiny of documents of two-wheelers plying on the roads .

Several riders have alleged that their two-wheelers were confiscated by the police without checking documents and they were asked to pick up their vehicles after October 26.
