International Yoga Day 2022: How it is being celebrated in India and abroad

Yoga Day 2022: This year’s theme is Yoga for Humanity.

The importance of yoga in our life cannot be underestimated. This has proved to be a boon in a world that is struggling to deal with the fast-paced lifestyle and negative consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yoga asanas have mesmerized people across the world. As a result, International Yoga Day is important in our lives.

The idea of ​​International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 June the following year. This day is recognized by the United Nations.

The theme of this year’s International Day of Yoga is ‘Yoga for Humanity’. It focuses on how yoga can help people achieve holistic health.

Several events have been planned at 75 heritage and iconic sites across the country to commemorate this day. Apart from this, events are also being organized across the world to mark the Yoga Day.

The list of events that will happen on this day in 2022 is as follows:

PM Modi in Mysore

PM Modi will lead the International Yoga Day celebrations from Mysore. He began his two-day visit to Karnataka yesterday. Today he will take part in a mass yoga demonstration at the Mysore Palace grounds. He will also be at the Maharaja’s College Ground in Mysore to lay the foundation stone for a coaching terminal at Naganahalli railway station. He will also be at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) for “Center of Excellence for Persons with Communication Disorders”.

Health Minister at Statue of Unity

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will attend the ceremony at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. The Health Ministry has said that the Statue of Unity is one of the 75 iconic sites for nationwide observation of the eighth edition of Yoga Day.

Entry free in Taj Mahal

Entry to the Taj Mahal and all other monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be free on this day.

Yoga Sessions in Washington

Ahead of the International Day of Yoga, the Indian Embassy on Saturday organized a mass yoga session at the iconic Washington Monument. Hundreds of people attended the program.

Yoga Day in the United Nations

India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations had planned a Yoga Day celebration on the North Lawn of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, which included a lecture and a yoga demonstration. A digital exhibition titled “The World of Yoga” will also be displayed at the entrance of UN delegates till July 1.

Prime Minister’s Yoga Award

The Ministry of AYUSH is hosting the Prime Minister’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga. It will be conducted on the MyGov platform of the government. There are two national level categories for which the awards will be announced today.
