The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Attack also reaffirms the United Nations’ commitment to protecting the rights of children around the world.

International Day of Innocent Children of Assault 2022: Children being one of the most vulnerable members of the society, they are subject to many types of crimes and violence across the world. Recognizing the pain and suffering experienced by children who have been victims of emotional, physical and mental abuse, June 4 is observed as International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.

The United Nations General Assembly in its emergency session on 19 August 1982 decided to mark 4 June as the International Day of Victims of Innocent Children of Attack. The session was held on 6 June that year after the Lebanese War broke out and claimed the lives of those killed. Many people, including many Palestinian and Lebanese children. The United Nations noted that it was “shocked at the large number of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children victims of Israel’s acts of aggression”.

Importance

The United Nations highlights that whenever there is a conflict, it is the children who bear the brunt of it. According to it, the recruitment and use of minors in war, murder, sexual violence, kidnapping, attacks on schools and hospitals, and denial of humanitarian access are the six most common violations worldwide.

The day is also celebrated to honor the efforts of organizations and individuals who are working to preserve the rights of children. It also encourages campaigns and steps taken to improve the lives of children globally and to protect them from violence of any kind. The day reminds people of the impact of abuse and violence on children and aims to spread awareness about it.

The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Attack also reaffirms the United Nations’ commitment to protecting the rights of children around the world. Many innocent children have been killed in wars and conflicts in countries such as Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. The United Nations aims to alleviate the suffering of these children by marking the day and bringing the issue to light.
