Indore Law College Book Row: MP Police Forms Teams to Arrest Author, Probe Panel Records Statements of Students

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday said that the Madhya Pradesh Police has formed teams to arrest the author of a controversial book, against whom a case was registered last week.

The case was registered after activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on the premises of the Government Law College in Indore, alleging that the book being taught to the students contained a lot of anti-Hindu community and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Only objectionable material. Which promotes religious fundamentalism.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a seven-member committee constituted by the Higher Education Department recorded statements of 250 students and teachers of the college regarding the controversy and ABVP’s allegations.

The police had said that the case was registered on charges of promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious sentiments.

“Police teams have been formed to arrest the author Dr Farhat Khan and the publisher of the controversial book,” Mishra told reporters in Bhopal.

The Indore-based publisher of the book, Hitesh Khetrapal of Amar Law Publications, had last week said that the author has already submitted an apology letter regarding the disputed portions of his book.

Amidst the controversy, Principal Rahman had resigned. He had said that he was innocent as he assumed office in 2019 while the controversial book was bought in 2014.
