Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday sought investment in the green energy sector, saying the country’s potential in renewable energy is no less than a “gold mine”.

Addressing a webinar on various announcements made in the Union Budget 2023-24 on green development, Modi said, “India will play an important role in green energy, I invite all stakeholders to invest in India.” He said that the potential of renewable energy such as solar, wind energy and biogas India He said that it is no less than a gold mine.

He said that the government is focusing a lot on biofuels and it will bring a lot of opportunities for the investors.

He mentioned about India achieving the 10 per cent ethanol blending target five months ahead of schedule. He also spoke of meeting the target of 40 per cent non-fossil fuel capacity nine years ahead of schedule.

He said that the budget of 2014 has not only addressed the current challenges but also ushered in new age reforms.

India set a target of producing 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year and provided an incentive of Rs 19,000 crore for the private sector under the National Hydrogen Mission.

He also talked about provision of Rs 3,000 crore in the budget for vehicle scrapping and about 3 lakh government vehicles older than 15 years to be scrapped.

He said that India has to increase the battery storage capacity to 125 GWh.

India has set an ambitious target of achieving 500GW of renewable energy by 2030.
