Commuters arrive at a bus stop to travel via India’s first electric double-decker bus, in Mumbai on Tuesday. The electric AC double-decker received an overwhelming response as the bus hit the streets of Mumbai from today and reportedly. The bus started plying between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and National Center of Performing Arts (NCPA). This electric mode of transport will allow commuters to take advantage of affordable, eco-friendly travel as compared to conventional transport.

The electric double decker bus seats 73 people. According to BEST officials, it is equipped with CCTV cameras and automatic doors and can be charged in 80 minutes. The transport company currently has 45 electric AC buses of various sizes, and will add 100 more wet-lease buses to its fleet in phases this year.

Timings, routes and ticket pricing

Buses started plying on A-115 route at 8:45 am today

The first and last buses from CSMT leave at 8.45 AM and 4 PM and at 12.20 PM and 7.40 PM respectively.

The first bus leaves NCPA at 9.02 AM and returns at 4.20 PM, whereas the last bus leaves at 12.40 PM and arrives at 8 PM

Weekend “Heritage Tours” will be conducted on AC Double Decker Electric Bus. It will be more expensive than regular travel ticket.

It costs Rs 6 for a 5 kilometer journey on the A-115 route. The upper deck of the heritage tour costs INR 150 while the lower deck costs INR 75.

Other bus routes that will get four to five additional buses include CSMT to Gateway of India, Kurla to BKC and Bandra East.

Passengers in the bus will be charged Rs 6 for the first five kilometers.

There will be 17% off on two tickets for the same day as an incentive on the Chalo app.

Tickets will be all digital and will not be available for purchase on the bus like other services. Users have to purchase Chalo Smart Card or download the Chalo App.
