Power demand in the country touched an all-time high and crossed the 200 GW mark on Wednesday, due to delayed monsoon and slack in power supply amid rising temperatures in several states. coronavirusrelated restrictions. Power demand was at a record high of 197.07 GW on Tuesday. Experts believe that the demand for electricity has increased these days due to high temperatures in many states due to delay in monsoon and easing of restrictions imposed to prevent corona virus infection.

Last month, the peak power demand met or the highest single day supply witnessed a growth of over 16 per cent at 191.51 GW (recorded on June 30) as compared to 164.98 GW recorded in June 2020. The peak power demand in June 2019 was 182.45 GW. .

According to ministry data, the peak demand for electricity touched an all-time high of 192.16 GW on July 5, 2021. Then, this figure had crossed the peak power demand of 191.51 GW recorded on June 30. “Today, the All India Peak Demand Met touched an all-time high of 197060 MW at 11:43 hrs. The demand is expected to reach 200000 MW in the near future,” Power Minister RK Singh said in a tweet on Tuesday.

In January, Singh had tweeted that power demand and supply reached a new high of 1,88,452 MW on January 28 at 9:42 am. “At the rate we are going, we will cross 200,000 MW very soon,” he said.
