Electricity demand in the country hit an all-time high of 197.06 GW on Tuesday, while delay in monsoon in several states led to a slowdown in power demand due to high temperatures and short supply of electricity. coronavirusrelated restrictions. “The all-time highest all India demand of 197060 MW as seen at 11:43 am today has been met. #MeetEnergyDemand,” the power ministry said in a tweet.

Experts believe that due to delay in monsoon and easing of restrictions imposed to prevent corona virus infection, high temperature has increased the demand for electricity in many states. Last month, the peak power demand met or the highest single day supply witnessed a growth of over 16 per cent at 191.51 GW (recorded on June 30) as compared to 164.98 GW in June 2020.

The peak power demand in June 2019 was 182.45 GW. According to ministry data, the peak demand for power touched an all-time high of 192.16 GW on July 5, 2021. Then, the figure had surpassed the peak power demand of 191.51 GW recorded on June 30.

“Today, the fulfillment of All India Peak Demand touched an all-time high of 197060 MW at 11:43 am. Expected to touch 200,000 MW demand in the near future,” Power Minister RK Singh said in a tweet on Tuesday.
