The Indian women’s football team ended their four-match showdown tour with a win over high-ranked Chinese Taipei 1-0 in an international friendly here on Wednesday.

Renu scored the most important goal in the third minute and the Indians kept their opponents at bay till the end. Chinese Taipei is ranked 40th in the FIFA charts while Indians are ranked 57th.

Thomas Dennerby’s side had entered the match after a 5-0 win over Bahrain in their previous outing here on Sunday.

Apart from a positive result against 85th-ranked Bahrain, India had defeated UAE 4-1 in Dubai earlier this month in international friendly matches and lost 0-1 to 77th-ranked Tunisia.

The friendly matches were part of preparations for the AFC Asian Cup, which will be hosted by India in January-February.

The Indians had not won the last five matches this year, although they were all against higher-ranked European sides, before their victory against the 100th-ranked UAE on 2 October.
