A 25-year-old Indian-origin man who was found injured inside a sports utility vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound to his head has died, according to officials in the US state of Maryland.

The man, 25-year-old Sai Charan Nakka, was found with an apparent gunshot wound inside a silver Hyundai Tucson SUV, news portal wmar2news.com reported on Monday.

At approximately 4:30 on Monday, Maryland Transportation Authority police were called to a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 southbound near the Catton Avenue exit.

The report said that Nakka was immediately transferred to the University of Maryland R.K. Adams was taken to the Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

It added that Baltimore police have opened a murder investigation following Nakka’s death.

Additional details about the incident were not immediately clear.
