Indian-origin crew members part of UK naval exercise in Indian Ocean – Times of India

Jagjeet Singh Grewal is a leading engineering technician in Navy. She is also a crew member of Indian origin United Kingdom Carrier Strike Group (CSG), currently sailing through the Indian Ocean region.
UK CSG 2021, led by Queen Elizabeth, has sailed into the Indian Ocean region after crossing the Suez Canal and Indian Navy To conduct regular maritime exercises, according to a press release from the British High Commission in Delhi.
Grewal, aboard the fifth generation aircraft carrier, works in the Department of Marine Engineering and is responsible for maintaining the highest level of aviation fuel. He also maintains fueling pumps on the flight deck so that F-35B jets, Merlin helicopters and other aircraft can operate at their maximum capacity. Currently settled in the UK, he has a long family history in the Indian Army.
He shared, “My grandfather and grandfather served with the British Army in World War II and received Mention in Dispatch, Burma Star, Africa Star, War Medal and Defense Medal. My father served Indian Air force and at present, my wife’s brother and uncle are serving in the Indian Navy.”

Grewal added, “I am focused on doing my job to the highest standards, but it’s nice to know that I am maintaining my family ties while serving with the Indian Army.”
As CSG sails across the Indian Ocean, engages with its partners in its 26,000 nautical mile-long maiden deployment, Grewal feels a special pleasure to be part of the crew, training in the waters near their ancestral home. Britain and India benefit from a uniquely vibrant bridge of people, ideas, institutions, arts and culture. This includes an Indian diaspora of over 1.5 million people in the UK (2011 census), who according to the British HC contribute significantly to the country’s prosperity through interests in business, politics, education, medicine and the arts.
