Indian cricketers hit nets under lights ahead of Sri Lanka ODIs

With two days left for the start of the Sri Lanka tour, the Indian cricketers have started their first practice session since landing in Colombo. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side will take on the hosts in six matches, including three ODIs and three T20Is.

The BCCI shared a picture of the entire Indian team listening carefully to tour great Rahul Dravid, who was appointed head coach for the tour, during training.

“Time to hit the trap. Our first practice session under lights begins now,” wrote BCCI along with the picture.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, who will be vying for a place in the XI, paid tribute to Dravid, saying the current team is fortunate to have learned his cricket from the legendary batsman.

“Every person in the India A team or junior going into the Indian team has had the privilege of going through a person named Rahul Dravid. We are very lucky that we learned cricket from him,” Samson said.

“I remember one day I was going to the Rajasthan Royals trials – I batted really well – and he came up to me and asked me a question ‘Can you play for my team?’. So, he It was the biggest moment of my life, and I will never forget it. It shows what a great human being he is and I really enjoy his company.”

The ODIs were to begin on July 13 but the start was delayed by five days due to several cases of Kovid in the Sri Lankan camp. The entire tour was now rescheduled with an ODI series starting on 18 July (Sunday).

The start time of the matches has also been changed. ODIs will now start at 3:00 PM (IST) and T20Is will start at 8:00 PM (IST).

India has sent a young team consisting of several uncapped players who are ready to make a mark. These matches offer an opportunity to grab a more permanent place in the Indian team keeping in mind the T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates later this year.

However, Sri Lanka have not yet revealed the name of their team.
