Indian Army foils infiltration attempt in Kashmir’s Kupwara, Pakistan asks hotline to take dead body

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Indian Army on Sunday thwarted another infiltration bid by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. According to reports, a Pakistani civilian was killed by the army during an infiltration bid in the border district.

The armed forces have also communicated a hotline with the Pakistan Army and asked it to retrieve the body of the slain man.

An AK-47 rifle, a large cache of ammunition and munitions were recovered from the slain terrorist, who has been identified as Mohammad Shabbir Malik, an official told news agency PTI.

“In complete violation of a ceasefire agreement between the two armies across the Line of Control (LoC), an infiltration or BAT action (Pakistan Army’s Border Action Team) attempt was made in the Keran sector of Kupwara on January 1. However, the infiltration attempt was foiled and the terrorist was gunned down by the Indian Army.”

Prompt action by the armed forces deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) foiled the infiltration attempt and eliminated the terrorist.

The site of the incident is on the Pakistani side of the anti-infiltration barrier system which is “kept under surveillance by the Indian Army to counter intruders or any nefarious activity by the Pakistani Army”.

The route adopted by the militant was similar to the route adopted during Operation Rangadori Bhai on April 4, 2020, in which five terrorists were eliminated. The army also said that surveillance of the area is going on.

“Ambushes were made on the possible routes to be taken by the intruders and the movement was followed till 16.00 hrs (4 PM). The ambush was carried out at the opportune time and the intruder was eliminated. Killed The body of the intruder was recovered along with a huge quantity of ammunition including AK-47 and seven grenades.

He said the armed infiltrator was seen moving across the LoC from areas controlled by the Pakistan Army at around 3 pm on Saturday.

“The baggage also includes a picture of an intruder in army uniform wearing a tab bearing the name of Shabbir,” he said, clearly establishing that Pakistan continues to sponsor terror across the border.

The official said the national identity card of the slain person and the vaccination certificate issued by the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination, Government of Pakistan, confirmed his identity.
