Indian women’s hockey team continued their unbeaten run with a comprehensive 3-0 win in the Under-23 Five Nations tournament Ukraine here on Wednesday.
Nikita Toppo (33rd), Manju Chaurasia (44th) and Beauty Dungdung (55th) scored a goal each. India Beat your opponents in the match.
Ukraine got its first penalty corner in five minutes but the Indian defense thwarted the threat. India slowly took control of the match, earning back-to-back PCs but could not utilize them.
India earned another PC in the second quarter but again missed the opportunity as both the teams went goalless at half time.
In the end, India were rewarded three minutes into the third quarter with Nikita Toppo scoring a field goal. India doubled the lead through Manju Chaurasia a minute before the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Ukraine tried to retaliate to chase down their first target, but the Indian defense held on to deny them any opportunity as they continued their attack.
In the 54th minute, India got the PC but could not convert it. But, a minute later, vice-captain Dungdung scored the team’s third goal, taking the game away to Ukraine.
India will play against USA in their fourth and final league stage match of the tournament on Thursday.
