Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday (April 15) that the country is going to get a record number of new doctors in the coming 10 years.

His remarks came after he inaugurated the 200-bed KK Patel Super Specialty Hospital in Gujarat’s Bhuj district through video conferencing. The hospital is built by the Leuva Patel community.

Addressing the inaugural function, the PM said, “With the goal of having at least one medical college in every district and ensuring that medical education is accessible to all, the country will get a record number of doctors after 10 years.”

“The hospital in Bhuj will provide good quality healthcare to the people at an affordable cost. Two decades ago, Gujarat had only nine medical colleges with only 1,100 seats. Today we have more than 36 medical colleges with 6,000 seats.”

He said that two decades ago there were only nine medical colleges in Gujarat, but in the last 20 years the medical education scenario has improved a lot.

PM Modi said, “Be it the goal of setting up medical colleges in every district of the country or an effort to make medical education accessible to all, the country is going to get a record number of new doctors in the coming 10 years.”

He further explained the meaning of ‘better healthcare facilities’ and said that these are not limited to the treatment of diseases only.

PM Modi said, “Better health facilities are not just limited to treatment of diseases, they also promote social justice. When a poor gets cheap and best treatment, his faith in the system is strengthened.”

The hospital has been constructed by Shree Kachhi Leva Patel Samaj, Bhuj. According to the PMO, this is Kutch’s first charitable super specialty hospital and a 200-bed hospital.

“It provides super specialty services like Interventional Cardiology (Cathlab), Cardiothoracic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Nephrology, Urology, Nuclear Medicine, Neuro Surgery, Joint Replacement and other ancillary services like Laboratory, Radiology etc.,” Said PMO.

Further, the PMO said that the hospital makes medical super specialty services easily accessible to the people of the area at an affordable cost.
