Delhi issues new Kovid advisory for schools, asks them to close if any case is reported

The Delhi government has issued a new advisory for schools in the national capital, directing them to temporarily close down the entire campus or specific wing if a student or employee tests positive for COVID-19. Give.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) also said that students and staff should wear masks and maintain social distancing as much as possible. The advisory, issued on April 13, comes amid reports of some students being found infected with Kovid-19 in the national capital and NCR. “If any COVID case is noticed or reported to the school authority, the same should be immediately reported to the Directorate of Education and the school or the concerned wing of the school, as the case may be, should be closed for the time being . stated in the advisory. Other measures listed in the advisory include wearing of masks by students, teachers and other staff of schools, maintaining social distancing to the extent possible.

It also advised regular hand washing and use of sanitizers and creating awareness about prevention of COVID among students, teachers and other support staff and parents visiting the school. Noting a “slight” rise in COVID-19 cases, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said earlier in the day that he has directed the education department to issue guidelines in this regard on Friday. However, both Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Sisodia maintained that the government was closely monitoring the situation, and asked people not to panic as there has been no increase in the number of hospitalisations.

“Covid cases have increased slightly but there is no increase in hospitalizations, so we need not worry. There is no need to panic but (we) have to be alert. We have to learn to live with covid. We are continuously monitoring the situation.”

“The education department will issue guidelines to schools in this regard tomorrow,” he said. Delhi recorded 325 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, while the positivity rate stood at 2.39 per cent, according to data shared by the city’s health department. Reports of infections from schools have raised concerns, weeks after they opened entirely for offline classes after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Kalkaji MLA and senior AAP leader Atishi said, “There are reports of a child and a teacher being found COVID-19 positive. Other students of the class have been sent home. We are closely monitoring the situation.” However, she did not name the school where the cases have been registered.

The fresh infections in privately run schools in the national capital have been reported close to Noida and Ghaziabad reporting new cases in adjoining schools. At least five students and staff of a top private school in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj have tested COVID positive in the past one week, leaving parents worried about the safety of their wards as well as the possible closure of schools. Huh.

While a section of parents claimed that the school did not inform other parents about the cases, and that the children continued to attend class with the COVID-19 positive students, the school categorically denied the allegation. Did.

“With students in Delhi-NCR testing positive for Covid, schools are battling with protocol. There are at least eight children in my child’s school, two staff members are positive. But no proper information is given to the parents. The school is functioning normally, even including classes with positive cases.” A school management representative said, “Parents of students of each class where one student tested positive, They were informed on the class WhatsApp group to take all COVID- 19 precautions.” Delhi schools have four days off from Thursday on account of Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday and the weekend thereafter.

The Delhi BJP demanded that the government should once again make masks mandatory in public places including public transport, schools, colleges and cinema halls in view of the rising number of cases. Government officials also said that in view of the spurt in COVID cases, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will hold a meeting on April 20, and may consider bringing back the mask mandate.
