Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne on Monday said he would have been happier if his team had won the second Test against India. Sri Lanka managed to delay the inevitable on Monday as Karunaratne scored 107 against India’s relentless bowling attack. But the visiting team eventually lost the match by 238 runs and went on to lose the series 2-0.

“I would have been happy if we had won. But it was tough, we batted in the light and it was tough. But I have worked very hard on my batting. Once I got in, I knew I had a big Might get it,” said Karunaratne at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Talking about where the Test team needs to work harder, Karunaratne said, “We have a good team, the batting didn’t take advantage of these conditions, the bowling was good, but we used to bowl loose balls all the time. Well, that’s what we need to work on going forward. Many young players have come forward and it was an experience for them.”

After playing his last international match for Sri Lanka, Karunaratne wished veteran pacer Suranga Lakmal the best of luck for his future. Lakmal signed a two-year all-format deal with county side Derbyshire.

“One of the best I have seen in my career. I am very happy for him that he is going into county cricket and I know he will do very well there too. It has been special to play with Lakmal and I am looking forward to the upcoming county season.” I wish him well.”
