middle order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara said on Wednesday that the captain Virat KohliThe man, who missed the ongoing second Test due to a back spasm, is now getting better and will soon regain fitness to play.

“Officially I can’t tell anything more but now he (Kohli) is definitely getting better and I think he will be fit very soon,” Pujara said during a media interaction.

Kohli was ruled out of the second Test against South Africa just before the start of the game due to an upper back spasm, leaving KL Rahul leading the side in the crucial match.

Rahul had said at the time of the toss that Kohli is expected to be available for the third and final Test to be held in Cape Town from January 11. Pujara said that the exact status of Kohli’s fitness will be known by the team physio.

Kohli, who has been battling a thin patch for a long time, will thus miss out on completing his historic 100th Test in the series finale in Cape Town.

As per the Indian team’s fixtures, if all goes well, Kohli will now get a chance to play his 100th Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru in February, provided he gets to play the third and final match against South Africa.
