India vs South Africa 2021-22: ‘The original will see Virat Kohli back in form’

For Virat Kohli, the year 2021 was one where he faced challenges on and off the field. While his quest for a century in the format continues, he was involved in a virtual battle with the BCCI when he openly opposed BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s claim during a press conference.

Earlier, after voluntarily stepping down from the role in T20Is, he was sacked as ODI captain. And then began chattering around his place in Test cricket thanks to a disinterested form.

However, Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes that the South Africa Test series, starting December 26, could be the turning point of the Indian captain’s fortunes.

Recalling Kohli’s 153-run knock in the Centurion Test during the 2017-18 tour of South Africa, Rajkumar told news agency ANI, “Last time Virat played an amazing innings at Centurion and I hope he gets to play once again. Will play again.”

“All his fans are eagerly waiting to see him perform like never before. He is a mature person. He has been captaining for a long time and he is passionate about the performance of Team India. This time the fans will get to see the real Virat back in form.”

When asked who India should play in the middle order given the competition between Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and newcomer Shreyas Iyer, Rajkumar replied, “It will be a tough call for Team India which will be given a tough call by Rahane, Pujara and K. Should be included in the middle playing XI. Iyer. Iyer cemented his place in the team after scoring a century as it would put a lot of pressure on the senior players. But it will be interesting to see what combination Team India goes with.”

Like other experts, he believes that India have a strong chance of creating history this time in South Africa thanks to their world-class fast bowling attack. He said, ‘Team India has a strong chance to win this series. India have never won a series in South Africa before and they are a very strong team themselves, especially their fast bowling line-up. It is going to be a tough competition but I still think it can be won,” said Rajkumar.
