India vs South Africa, 1st Test: Shardul Thakur out for no ball? Viral picture sparked controversy

New Delhi: Team India had a poor start on the fourth day of the first Test of India vs South Africa being played in Centurion. The visiting team lost the opening wicket on the fourth day in the form of Shardul Thakur.

After the early dismissal of Mayank Agarwal in the last session of the third day, Shardul Thakur came out to bat at number three as a nightwatchman ahead of Cheteshwar Pujara.

Shardul’s role was to play the last few deliveries of the day and he performed well by remaining unbeaten and took the team to 16/1 at the stumps.

Moments after the start of the fourth day’s play, Shardul Thakur was dismissed for 10 by Kagiso Rabada and Viaan Mulder completed a fine catch in the hoop.

Meanwhile, a controversy erupted on social media after a picture went viral in which Rabada can be seen overstepping and the ball on which Shardul got out was a no ball.

The viral picture indicated that the third umpire failed to recognize that it was a no ball.

Coming back into the match, India were bundled out for 174 in their second innings. South Africa now need 305 runs to win the India vs South Africa 1st Test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.

Talking about Shardul’s Test career, this star all-rounder completed 200 Test runs in the year 2021 with the help of three fifties. During this his average was 33.33.

When Shardul was dismissed for 10 on the fourth day of the first Test in India vs South Africa, it was the first time in his last eight Test innings that he had crossed the double-figure mark while batting and scored less than 57.
