India Vs Ireland 2023: Jasprit Bumrah Set To Return, Shreyas Iyer And KL Rahul To Miss Out Again And Coach Rahul Dravid To Take A Break

There is good news for Team India and captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the three-match T20I series against Ireland next month. Talismanic fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a comeback for the series, his first appearance in any format of cricket since the India vs Australia T20I series in September 2022.

According to the Cricbuzz website, Bumrah is set to return for the Ireland series but there is no time frame for the return of batsmen Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. While Iyer, who missed the entire IPL 2023 season due to a back injury, has resumed batting in the nets, Rahul has been regularly seen hitting the gym at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Final decision on squad for Ireland T20Is A decision on this will be taken after a meeting between the newly appointed chairman of the selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, and Team India captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid.

“The new chairman of selectors is expected to join the team in the West Indies soon, possibly during the second Test in Trinidad. Salil Ankola, a member of the selection committee, is already traveling with the team. The Indian team, which won the first Test in Dominica, will fly to Trinidad, the venue of the second Test, on Monday,” said a report on the Cricbuzz website.

“Bumrah is expected to be selected for the Ireland series. The Indian leadership has shown significant progress in the recent past. There is no guarantee whether Shreyas Iyer will be available or not but KL Rahul has no chance to play not only in Ireland series but also in Asia Cup 2023. Rahul is currently undergoing rehab at NCA and as per the latest information, he is yet to start batting,” the report said.

The website’s report also states that Dravid and Team India’s support staff will be given a break after the series against the West Indies. This means that head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will return home from the United States after the last two T20Is against the West Indies next month.

“The main reason for the rest of the coaching staff is to ensure that they have enough time to recover ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, which begins on August 31, which will be followed by a series of assignments, including a three-match ODI series against Australia. Which will end. The World Cup will end on November 19,” the report read.

In Dravid’s absence, Team India will be coached by NCA chief – VVS Laxman, who will be joined by Sitanshu Kotak and Hrishikesh Kanitkar (batting) and Troy Cooley and Sairaj Bahutule (bowling). Former India batsman Laxman had earlier served as the coach when India toured Ireland last June for a few T20 matches.

This time three Twenty20 Internationals are to be played in Ireland in Dublin on 18, 20 and 23 August.

No change in the schedule of Asia Cup 2023

Meanwhile, the report also states that there is no change in the schedule of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The final schedule, which has been delayed, will be released soon. “As decided earlier, Sri Lanka will host nine games and these matches are expected to be played in Kandy and Dambulla. Lahore will be the second venue, where four matches will be played. Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 17 in both the countries,” the report said.
