It’s only been 10 days since the Indian women’s hockey team made its debut. Tokyo Olympics campaign – his third appearance in the marquee event and second straight since the 2016 Rio Games. India lost 1-5 to Netherlands. They will face two more demoralizing defeats, but they seem to be a thing of the distant past. As it is today, the entire nation is enjoying the glory of the stellar 16 members of the team who created history by making it to the semi-finals for the first time in the Games and that too by defeating three-time Olympic gold medalist Australia.
The mid-tournament resurgence is a testament to their resolve and a statement of how far they have come since Rio 2016 when they failed to win a single match with a draw being their only consolation.
But today they are dreaming. A win in one of the two matches they will now play in Tokyo will ensure a historic medal. One win each and they would have added a golden chapter in the glorious history of Indian hockey.
But on their way, they now face a formidable opponent in Argentina that is a roll in itself.

Savita Punia (Goalkeeper): Savita, the senior most member of the squad, has been praised wall of this team. It was a significant save in the late quarterfinal clash of the 31-year-old as she lay on the turf to push the ball away which kept Australia at bay and won 1-0. In fact, Australia won two late penalty corners but a cautious Savita ensured a clean-sheet. India will best need their custodian against Argentina which is scoring a lot of goals in the tournament.
Argentina
Augustina Albertario (Forward) and Augustina Gorzelny (Defender): Both have scored five goals for Argentina so far, with Albertario scoring two field goals, while Gorgeleni converting three penalty corners. The Indian defense line-up will have to be careful with both, not allowing them in easily.
