The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule of the World Cup 2023 to be held in India in October-November, with 2019 edition finalists England and New Zealand taking on each other in the tournament’s opening match on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Hosts India will take on Australia in their first match on October 8 in Chennai while the thriller against Pakistan will take place on October 15 in Ahmedabad.
The announcement of the World Cup schedule was delayed several times. While the schedule for the 2019 and 2015 World Cups was announced a year in advance, the 2023 edition of the premier event was held up due to venue availability, apprehensions of inclement weather in some cities in October-November, and delays from Pakistan. There were several delays due to approvals. Will play in India after moving around several times following BCCI’s refusal to travel to the neighboring country for the Asia Cup.
