A joint statement issued after Thursday’s BRICS meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, said the ministers “appreciated the relevant offers of mediation and good offices aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.” Ministerial meeting.

Asked about the BRICS joint statement, Bagchi told a media briefing that India has always supported mediation efforts and the idea of ​​moving forward through diplomacy and dialogue. “Any mediation effort that works in that direction would be welcome,” he added.

Asked whether the statement was an endorsement of the so-called peace plan offered by China, Bagchi said: “I would not be sure whether to characterize the peace plan that you have referred to as an attempt at mediation or not.” Ukraine continues to press for a resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. The BRICS statement said the ministers “recall” their national positions regarding the situation in and around Ukraine in appropriate fora, including the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly.
