“It was special (being part of the 2007 T20 World Cup squad), but I have forgotten about it. To be honest, India needs to move on from this. 2007, it was 13 years ago and I think we need to get rid of this obsession of 2007 and 2011,” Gambhir said on Star Sports show ICC T20 World Cup Special.

Robin Uthappa agreed. “Of course, for me personally, it is a special moment, but I agree with Gautam Gambhir. I think we achieved it in 2007, so we know it can be achieved.”

Gambhir said that when India take on Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have a big responsibility. India and Pakistan were placed in the same group for the tournament, as the teams were announced by the ICC. Same on Friday.

Gambhir recalled that he was nervous as a youngster when he first played against Pakistan.

“When I played my first international against Pakistan, I was probably a lot more excited and nervous than some of the people who played a lot of cricket against Pakistan. Therefore, it is the responsibility of seniors to perhaps keep young people calm; Because ultimately it is not the emotion that will get you the game of cricket, it is the competition between bat and ball that will ultimately win you the game of cricket. So for example people like Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma will have a big responsibility when Indians take on Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Robin Uthappa highlighted the importance of the India-Pakistan clash during the World Cup.

“It brings up a lot of emotions, expectations and people are always looking forward to it. I think, any cricketer who has played in the past or anyone who wants to play for India is always looking forward to an India-Pakistan game. Because it brings up a lot of emotions – at least for the people who watch the game, more than the people who play it.”
