India’s tour of England in 2014 is best remembered for the terrific performance given by Team India in the five-match Test series. However, in all the five games, there was one Test match that stunned the entire cricket fraternity and made them appreciate India’s temperament and patience.

After the first Test between England and India ended in a draw, India took the field with renewed vigor during the second match. The high-profile Test match began with home captain Alastair Cook winning the toss and opting to bowl. Batting in the first innings, India did not enjoy a good outing with the willow as he scored 295 runs on the scoreboard. Rahane was a staple for the visitors with a scintillating knock of 103 runs. Rahane added 103 runs in 154 balls with the help of 15 fours and a maximum.

In the second innings, England scored 319 runs to take a lead of 24 runs. Gary Balance scored the highest 110 runs for the hosts. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the highest wicket-taker as he took six wickets. In the third innings, India put up a better batting performance by scoring 342 runs.

The credit goes to Murali Vijay and Ravindra Jadeja who added 95 and 68 runs respectively to the scoreboard. Ben Stokes and Liam Plunkett were selected as the bowlers in the third innings as they took three wickets each. England entered the last innings with the aim of winning the Test match but a storm named Ishant gave them a tough fight.

He ran through the opposition’s bowling line to take seven wickets to stop them at 223. The seamer thus led India to a memorable 95-run victory at Lord’s, their first since 1986.
