India reports 4,362 new Covid cases, Mumbai records lowest single day toll since March 2020

new Delhi: Recording a steady decline in the number of coronavirus cases, the daily jump in Covid infections in India crossed the 5000 mark on Sunday. The country recorded 4,362 new cases today in the last 24 hours.

According to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, the active cases now stand at 54,118, while 66 people succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

With a daily drop in infections, Mumbai on Sunday reported 46 COVID-19 cases, the lowest since March 2020, taking the tally to 10,56,918, while clearing nine consecutive days. One death after the slate took the toll to 16,692.

This is the lowest (one day infection) since March 2020, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal said, adding that the positivity rate was 0.2 per cent.

For the first time since the peak of the pandemic, less than 50 new cases have been reported in Mumbai. A day to mark and a mark not to cross! Let’s wait there in Mumbai till the mark becomes zero, tweeted BMC.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 249 new coronavirus cases and zero fatality rate, while the positivity rate stood at 0.59 per cent, as per the data shared by the health department on Sunday.

This is the second day in a row that the national capital reported zero fatalities. So far 26,134 people have died due to infection in Delhi.

With the fresh cases, the number of infections in the national capital rose to 18,61,712, as per the latest health bulletin.

The number of COVID-19 tests conducted a day earlier stood at 42,364, the bulletin said.

As per the data shared by the health department, 274 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Delhi on Saturday, while the positivity rate stood at 0.58 per cent.
