Maharashtra on alert after rising cases in China

Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Saturday that in view of the new spurt in coronavirus cases in South Korea, China and Europe, we cannot yet lower our defenses.

According to the report of PTI, the Union Health Ministry had sent a letter to the states a day ago about the need to remain alert.

Asked by journalists whether masks should still be mandatory considering that the new daily cases in Maharashtra are declining rapidly, Tope said, “The central government’s letter clearly says that we are going to China, South Korea, Europe cannot be careless given the rising number of cases. We must be cautious.”

South Korea, which has only half the population of Maharashtra, is reporting over one lakh infections a day and there were reports of a shortage of hospital beds in that country, he said, adding, “We should be wise from the experience of others. “

Asked if a fourth wave of coronavirus is imminent,” he said, “we must continue to be careful, that’s all we can do.”

Maharashtra reported 97 new coronavirus infections and one death on Saturday.
