India reports 1.2 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases, positivity rate drops to 7.9% in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India recorded 1,27,952 new cases of Kovid-19 with 1059 deaths in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 2,30,814 are reported to be cured.

The country’s active caseload stood at 13,31,648 while the death toll reached 5,01,114. The daily positivity rate was 7.98 percent while the weekly positivity rate was 11.21 percent.

16,03,856 tests were conducted for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

So far 168.98 crore Kovid-19 vaccine doses have been given in the country.

The north-eastern state of Mizoram reported 1,777 new cases of Kovid-19 in the last 24 hours. The active caseload in the state stood at 14,999. The daily positivity rate has touched 27.38 percent in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 13,840 new cases of infection with 81 deaths, the state health department said on Friday.

On the same day, Punjab recorded 1,379 new infections in its COVID-19 caseload, taking the cumulative figure to 7,50,272. Whereas with the death of 25 more people, the death toll rose to 17,392. The number of active cases is 14,321.

Delhi, on the other hand, recorded 2,272 new cases with 28 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate in Delhi is 3.85 percent.

In view of the decline in cases, the Delhi government has decided to reopen schools, colleges and other educational institutions from February 7. Night curfew has also been reduced by one hour from 11 pm to 5 am.
