Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad said the team is playing decades-old cricket with white-ball tactics. His statement comes after another series defeat in Bangladesh.

Former cricketers like Venkatesh Prasad and Virender Sehwag came down heavily on the Rohit Sharma-led team India Following their second defeat in the three-match series against Bangladesh. This meant that they lost the ODI series – their second such defeat in 7 years on Bangladesh soil. It all started when a spirited Mehdi Hasan Miraj led his team to a mammoth target of 271 after being bowled out for 69/6 after electing to bat first in the second ODI at Mirpur.

New opening pair in reply Virat Kohli And Shikhar Dhawan got India off to a dreadful start. The team was reduced to 12/2 before Shreyas Iyer’s 82 and Axar Patel’s 56 helped the rescue act. Later an injured Rohit Sharma came in to bat at nine but even his 28-ball 51 could not help as India went down by 5 runs.

Meanwhile, this loss comes on the back of T20 World Cup defeats in 2022 and 2021 where the team’s cricketing strategies came under criticism. The team was described as slow in the opening powerplay which was said to be out of date in the face of modern T20 gameplay. Reiterating the same point, former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad asked Team India to do soul search. Taking to Twitter, he posted how India’s white-ball strategy is decades old.

“India is innovating across the world in so many sectors. But when it comes to playing limited overs cricket, our approach is a decade old. 2015 World Cup 2015: England made a tough decision after being knocked out in the first round of the 2015 World Cup and having become such an exciting team, India need to make tough decisions.

“And make a drastic change in attitude. We haven’t won a T20 World Cup since the inception of the IPL and have been poor in ODIs apart from a handful of victories in bilateral matches in the last 5 years. For too long we haven’t learned from our mistakes leave alone being an exciting team in limited overs cricket. Change”, he added.

Furthermore, Virender Sehwag was blunt on his move, saying that the team’s shares are falling faster than crypto. “Your performance is falling faster than crypto, man. Need to shake – wake up.”
