New Delhi: India on Wednesday test-fired a new short-range ballistic missile named Pralay, which has a range of 150 to 500 km. abdul kalam island on the banks of Orissa,
The first test of the surface-to-surface missile, which can carry a payload of 1,000 kg and is powered by a solid propellant rocket motor, has served all the objectives. “The new missile followed the desired quasi-ballistic trajectory and reached the specified target with high accuracy, validating control, guidance and mission algorithms,” a DRDO said the officer. “All the sub-systems performed satisfactorily. All sensors deployed near the impact point on the east coast, including down range ships, track the missile trajectory and capture all incidents,” he said.
The missile’s guidance system, which can be launched from a mobile launcher, consists of a state-of-the-art navigation system and integrated avionics. Pralay is a short-range tactical missile with a huge payload to target enemy positions.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Congratulations on the rapid development and successful maiden launch of the modernized Pralay missile. DRDO Chairman G Satheesh Reddy, in turn, said that Pralay is a new generation surface-to-surface missile equipped with modern technologies and the induction of this weapon system will give the necessary impetus to the armed forces.
