India has supplied over 723 lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 94 countries and two United Nations entities since the launch of the Vaccine Friendship Program in January this year, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday. India Minister of State for Health Bharati Praveen Pawar said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha that since the beginning of the pandemic, over 150 countries have supplied medical and other aid related to COVID-19.

He said, “Since the launch of the Vaccine Friendship Program in January, 2021, India has supplied 723.435 lakh doses of COVID vaccine to 94 countries and 2 United Nations entities through grants, commercial exports or COVAX till November 29, 2021. Is.”

In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic during the second wave, support was received in the form of COVID related tools and medicines from more than 50 countries. These include supplies from foreign governments, private companies, Indian associations abroad etc., Pawar said.

Responding to a separate question on the government’s response to the call to help low-income countries, Pawar said the WHO-led COVAX facility has ensured that there is a substantial increase in the supply of vaccines to low-income countries. No effort should be made for All countries that are well supplied with Covid-19 vaccines on manufacturers to donate doses to COVAX and to prioritize supply to COVAX.

He said that the Government of India has so far supplied 222.56 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses to COVAX.
