India committed to ensure safe habitat for its tigers: PM Modi India News – Times of India

New Delhi: On this occasion international tiger day, Prime minister Narendra Modi India on Thursday reiterated India’s commitment to ensuring safe habitat for its tigers and nurturing a tiger-friendly ecosystem.
In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said that India’s strategy of tiger conservation attaches paramount importance to the involvement of local communities.
“We are also inspired by our age-old ethos of living in harmony with all the flora and fauna with whom we share our great planet,” Modi said.

Congratulating wildlife lovers, especially tiger conservation enthusiasts, on International Tiger Day, Modi said India is home to more than 70 per cent of the tiger population globally.
“We reiterate our commitment to ensure safe habitat for our tigers and nurture a tiger-friendly ecosystem,” he said.
India is home to 51 tiger reserves spread over 18 states and the last tiger census 2018 saw an increase in the tiger population, he said.

International Tiger Day is marked on 29 July with the aim of promoting a global system to protect the natural habitats of tigers and increasing public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
