Efforts for reconciliation between India and China over the border dispute are progressing. The two countries withdrew their forces from Gogra Heights 6 days after the 12th round of talks labeled Military Commander. The temporary constructions and structures built there have also been demolished.

In a statement issued by the army, it has been said that on Sunday, July 31, the talks of the Corps Commander label were held between the two sides. This 12th round of talks lasted about 9 hours in Moldo, part of China.

In the meeting, the armies of both the countries have decided to withdraw from the patrolling point 17A. The patrolling point 17A of Gogra Heights has been one of the disputed areas of the Eastern Ladakh region.

The last talks between the two sides regarding disengagement were held in February this year. Then both the armies agreed to withdraw from the banks of Pangong Lake. Both the countries will continue the meeting on other issues including Hot Spring’s Patrolling Point (PP-15) and Depsang and will also resolve them through talks.

The process of disengagement took place on 4th and 5th August
The army said that both the sides discussed to reduce tension in the remaining places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the western sector. During this, both the sides agreed to withdraw from the Gogra area. Soldiers came face-to-face in this area in May last year.

As agreed, both sides ceased advance deployment in the region in a phased and coordinated manner. The disengagement process was done on 4th and 5th August 2021. Soldiers from both sides are now in their permanent bases.

The statement said that the Indian Army along with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is fully committed to ensuring the sovereignty of the country and maintaining peace along the LAC in the western sector.

Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister had talks
The Commander Label talks came after India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit on July 14. Jaishankar and Wang Yi had an hour-long conversation in the midst of the SCO summit in Dushanbe.

Jaishankar had clearly told the Chinese Foreign Minister that India would not accept any unilateral change in the status quo on the Line of Actual Control. At the same time, peace and good relations between the two countries will continue only when there is complete restoration of peace in Eastern Ladakh.
