IND vs SL, 2nd Test: Mayank Agarwal’s bizarre run out leaves Rohit Sharma out – watch

India’s opener Mayank Agarwal came out to bat in front of the home crowd for the first time in a Test match on Saturday. He even had a stylish start to his innings in the Pink Test against Sri Lanka, in which he scored his first run with a boundary. But before he could form a healthy opening partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma, his stint at the crease ended strangely.

Mayank was run out in the very next over which could be the most unfortunate dismissal. Fast bowler Vishwa Fernando bowled a back-of-length delivery, which skidded quickly and hit the batsman’s pads. The Lankans made a confident appeal while Mayank dashed towards the other end as the ball rolled over cover. ,IND vs SL 2nd Test Day 1 Live Updates,

Meanwhile, Jayavikrama came running from the point and threw the ball towards Niroshan Dickwella. It looked like the visitors wanted a referral for LBW as the wicketkeeper signaled for the DRS before removing the bails.

While Rohit was at the non-striker’s end, trying to understand what just happened, on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary signaled a no-ball as Fernando overstepped. Since the run out was valid, Mayank had to walk back.

It was a much-needed success for Sri Lanka but a complete disappointment for Mayank. He got out after scoring just 4 runs in 7 balls.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat first on a dry Bengaluru track. Speaking at the toss, Rohit said that India has brought Axar Patel in place of Jayant Yadav for this day-night match.

“We are going to bat first. It looks like dry pitch and runs on the board are important. Axar Patel is fit and he has come for Jayant. It has a lot to do with the circumstances. It is unfortunate that Jayant misses after just one game,” said Rohit.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, made two changes to their playing XI, bringing in Kusal Mendis and Praveen Jayawickrama in place of injured Lahiru Kumar and Pathum Nisanka.

“The wicket is very dry and it will turn later, so we wanted to bat first as well. We talked about the things we did wrong in the last Test. Nissanka and Kumara are not available. Kusal Mendis and Praveen Jayavikrama come in,” said Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne.
