Rahul Tripathi, making his debut, took a brilliant catch of Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka off the bowling of Akshar Patel in the second T20 match. India and Sri Lanka in Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Mumbai.

Tripathi was handed his first T20I start, making him the third-oldest Indian player to make his debut in the shortest format of the game behind the legendary teammate. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.

He made good use of his chances in the field as he worked really well to get into position to take Nissanka’s catch and did the latter part of the job to perfection as he landed in-bounds.

India won the toss and elected to bat as the visitors got off to a good start thanks to disciplined bowling from Arshdeep Singh, who returned to the side in place of Harshal Patel.

The young pacer conceded 19 runs in his first over and was out of the crease thrice, all resulting in free hits that proved costly.

His issues with no-balls did not go away as the match continued as he repeated the infringement twice in the 19th over, once again proving costly as he conceded 18 runs in the final over.

Umran Malik was one of the bowlers in blue for the men as the Kashmiri pacer scalped three wickets in the evening.

The bowler came up with a delivery to get rid of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who smashed the Indian’s 147 kmph delivery onto the stumps. Malik then dismissed Charith Aslanka as Shubman Gill managed to hold on to the catch that was handed to him.

Malik’s third night was perhaps his best evening as he cleared Wanindu Hasaranga’s stumps as soon as the Lankan all-rounder came out to bat and beat him for pace.

Sri Lanka ended their innings in strong style as skipper Dasun Shanaka hit a blistering half-century to set India a mammoth target of 207.
