Fans criticized Rohit Sharma’s call to drop Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan from playing XI for 1st ODI against Sri Lanka.

The team after winning the T20 series against Sri Lanka 2-1 India started his road to ODI World Cup 2023, as they will host Dasun Shanaka’s team in Guwahati for the first ODI of the three-match series.

In their first ODI of 2023, legends like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul made their comeback but it came at a cost.

Rohit missed the Sri Lanka T20 International due to his recovery from a thumb injury sustained against Bangladesh last year, while players like Virat and Rahul were rested.

However, the heavyweights returned for the ODIs.

However, Rohit opted to bench the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, which angered the Indian fans.

While Surya is in the middle of the scoring streak after scoring a century in the last T20I against Sri Lanka, Kishan scored a double century the last time India played in the 50-over format.

Fans debated Rohit’s team selection on social media, with many wondering whether the likes of Suryakumar and Kishan were ‘victims’ of workload management.

See how the fans reacted

While Rohit replaced Ishan in the playing XI, he was accompanied by Shubman Gill and the Indian openers helped the Men in Blue get off to a promising start in Guwahati.

The pair put on a century partnership before parting ways and Rohit bounced back with a brilliant half-century. Gill also scored a quick half-century.

Before Tuesday’s ODI, Rohit had scored a half-century in his last match for India and that too with a thumb injury. He came out to bat at number eight and the match was heading towards a tense finish.

The ‘Hitman’ injured himself trying to take a catch earlier in the match, but with India on the verge of losing the match, the captain came out to bat and almost helped his team pull away with a miraculous victory, but They fell short by five runs.
