IND vs SL 2022, 1st Test: Jadeja hits century as India pile on 468/7 at lunch on Day 2

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored his second Test century to put India on top in the ongoing first match against Sri Lanka in Mohali. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 102 during the lunch break and India’s score was 468/7.

After Jadeja resumed his total of 357/6 overnight in the first match of the series, Ravichandran Ashwin carried on the good work done by the top-order on Friday. The pair made a century partnership for the seventh wicket while completing their half-century.

Sri Lanka fought hard for a breakthrough but it was only after Jadeja and Ashwin added 130 runs. And it was Suranga Lakmal who gave Ashwin the lead to bowl out Ashwin for 61 for 82.

It brought Jayant Yadav in the middle and in his company Jadeja completed his century.

So far, Lasith Embuldeniya (2/152) and Suranga Lakmal (2/86) have taken two wickets each for Sri Lanka. The hosts added 111 runs for the loss of just one wicket in the morning session.

Ashwin was in good shape with the bat, hitting some gorgeous boundaries during his stay. Lakmal and the move to overtake the Indian with short deliveries for Sri Lanka finally achieved the much-needed breakthrough.

Before the start of the game on Saturday, both the Indian and Sri Lankan players observed a minute’s silence in memory of Rod Marsh and Shane Warne.

“There was a minute’s silence before the start of the second day of the first Test for Rodney Marsh and Shane Warne, who passed away yesterday. The Indian team is wearing a black band today.”
