Mitchell Santner He believes that his experience of playing under Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Stephen Fleming at Chennai Super Kings will be beneficial as he captains New Zealand in the T20I series in India.

“If you look at both of them (Dhoni and Fleming), they are both very calm and very balanced, which I like because I feel I am similar in that regard. Working with and with MS (Dhoni) It’s been a great few years to do. I think it’s good to be back on my home turf. And Fleming – he’s the same, very balanced and keeps it very relaxed and that’s what we try There are things to do in this set-up as well,” said the left-handed batsman ahead of the series opener.

In a World Cup year, ODIs are given more priority than T20s but Santer said it is an honor to play every match for the country. “I think the way ODI cricket is going at the moment with high scores, you know it is not very different from T20. So, this year the experience in T20 cricket will be similar to what we get in the one-day series. Where we saw some high scores and good hitting.

The all-rounder said, “I think trying to put those experiences of that series in the bank… Yes, we obviously lost 3-0, but we showed glimpses in the games that we can look forward to in this series.” want to take it forward.”

Will he continue to remain calm under pressure now that he is leading the team?

“Yeah, I think it’s my nature, and it’s been like that for a while. But of course there’s a bit more nervousness (now) too and it’s very exciting to captain another series in India – It’s not much better. So, definitely looking forward to it and it’s going to be a challenge, no doubt about that,” he said.

Santner had earlier captained the team in the final T20 match in India in 2021. He is currently working as Kane Williamson is unavailable.
